Japan privatises it's defence force... you know what that means folks- idols!
Idols in fighter jets playing high acrobatic games of tag, but singing cringe-inducing pop songs with lyrics such as..."the cockpit of your heart".
Strap yourself in for some high-flying 90's moe.
You can also watch this anime after the cut .

Plot wise, this anime is pretty good. It follows a group of sisters whose father's job as a pilot greatly influenced them, they want to win an award that had always been their father's dream. In order to subsidise this they must become idols, cause y'know, planes ain't cheap.
Again the drawback with reviewing these OVA series it's so hard to talk about story without divulging spoilers, what I can say is that for an early 90s anime the animation quality is quite high (try to find the mastered re-release), with a very engaging musical score and really top quality idol songs (and those costumes- yipes!)
A lot of research went into this anime, as Dr Boyfriend sat with me to watch it and was suddenly going "Holy crap it's a F4 Phantom/F18/F16 and a Russian SU24!" so among the models of planes are ones that are drawn so well that my mech-nerd hubby can recognise them. He was so impressed he sat for a while and watched this with me, despite the premise of; "Oh this? It's an anime with idol jet fighters..."
Since this is a blog pertaining to anime and also idols, it my interest you to know the seiyuu who played the Idol Defence sisters actually formed an idol group for promotional reasons. This was a very popular things to do and brought us gems like PEACH HIP (Sailor Moon) and Goddess Family Club (Ah! My Goddess) and more recently brought us μ's (Love!Live)
Considering the far fetched premise I thoroughly enjoyed this anime. There's a fair bit of character development and some really thought-provoking story line which had me absorbed and feeling the character's struggles.
